India’s lunar mission Chandrayaan 3 made history on 23 August when it stepped on the south pole of the moon’s surface on August 23 at 6:04 P.m. IST. With This mission, India became the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the moon’s surface.
Chandrayaan 3 was first launched on 14 July 2023 from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota range, Andhra Pradesh.
This was a historic moment for India and the world, as no other space mission had ever reached the far side of the moon. This mission will bring new opportunities for the world to explore another side of the moon.
The Chandrayaan 3 Spaceship consisted of a Lander named Vikram which is based on Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and a rover named Pragyan. The Journey from launching to landing took a total of 25 days and is expected to last for over a year the rover will not only take images of the moon but also several samples to gain a better understanding of the history and geology of the moon and how it came into existence.
The rover is equipped with various equipment such as drills, cameras, spectrometers, etc., which will study the lunar surface.
One main part of Chandrayaan 3 of India is its budget being low in comparison to other lunar missions conducted by other countries. Chandrayaan 3 Mission took about 600 crores in rupees or 75 million in dollars to complete. This low budget of India has now set the bar that space missions can be achieved on such a limited budget.
